Client: Cisco
Configuration (Logik.io)
Project Details:
Project Duration: Oct '24 -Feb '25
Role: Sr. UX/UI Design Consultant
Overview & Objective
Goal: Simplify the data heavy configuration process for server chassis and blades
Solution:
→ Implement a more simplified user experience using Logik.io, a tool adopted by Cisco to simplify complex configurations
→ Enable a bottom-up configuration process, starting from individual servers and building up to the chassis
Purpose:
→ Make configuring servers more intuitive and efficient
→ Help users visualize and manage relationships between server blades and their chassis (think of “a home” housing all blades)
Key Outcome:
→ Reduced complexity in setup workflows, improving accuracy and efficiency for engineers and system administrators
→ Simplified configuration process by reducing the process by 1 hour (typically takes around 3 hours)
Business Context
Cisco previously used a different system to configure purchased server blades and chassis
Users expressed significant usability challenges and inefficiencies with the previous system – a demo of the previous system could not be shown
With their existing license nearing expiration, Cisco was seeking an improved, user-friendly alternative (Logik.io)
End goal was to demonstrate a superior UX solution, improving functionality and improve the time consuming configuration process
Discovery and Research
Partnered with an Experience Architect to define user needs and technical requirements
Conducted independent research on Logik.io’s configuration capabilities, avoiding privacy constraints
Discovered that the configuration process was highly technical, which prioritized UX and clarity over aesthetics for highly technical users
Realized potential for the UI to become cluttered and overwhelming due to the high number of data inputs required for blade and chassis configurations
Created a roll-up interaction model with clickable chevrons to manage complex inputs and reduce clutter
Ensured designs stayed within Logik.io’s out-of-the-box constraints while still improving usability and efficiency
Design Iteration & Prototyping
Challenges Faced:
Required to use out-of-the-box Logik.io components, limiting visual flexibility
Faced licensing constraints and limited to no visibility into project timelines, and current legacy system workflow
Despite external constraints and license limitations, we remained design exploration and wireframe client demos — maintaining iterative design presentation and alignment
Collaborated with Experience Architect, other Designers, Solution Architects, PM’s, and SME’s to ensure accuracy in chassis and blade configurations
Maintained progress and client satisfaction through ongoing demos and adaptability despite roadblocks
Clickable Prototype
Outcome & Impact
Cisco project spanned eight months, during which the team delivered a strong, functional UX foundation
After project completion, Logik.io licenses were finalized, and the client successfully implemented the proposed designs
User feedback was highly positive, with reports of improved usability and satisfaction with the new interface
Despite the minimalist visuals, the out-of-the-box Logik.io components achieved a clean, efficient, and technically sound user experience
Final solution effectively produced simplicity, clarity, and quicker configuration — meeting the client’s expectations and long-term goals
